Extreme Sweep Picking 8 Finger Tapping

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Thursday, November 1, 2018 In : sweep picking 8 finger tapping

Technique
This is sweep picking combined with 8 finger tapping and to be able to do this properly you have to learn and master the technique where I slide the pick up the thumb using my index finger, this movement enables you to use all four fingers on each hand to do the 8 finger tapping technique. This is obviously not an easy technique but its a technique I developed many years ago to combine those two wonderfull techniques, sweep picking and 8 finger tapping

Theory
The way you can implement ...

Ionian #5 sweep picking arpeggio

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 In : Sweep Picking Tapping

Technique
This is a combination of the Sweep Picking technique and the multi finger tapping technique, but also I play a four notes per string legato pattern on the high E string with my fretting hand and then I tap using the long finger and the ring finger and still keeping the pick between the thumb and index finger

Theory
This arpeggio is very specific so it can mainly be used from the sixth step of the Harmonic minor scale

How to practice
If you by any chance already feel relatively comfortabl...

Phrygian Dominant Sweep Picking

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 In : Sweep Picking Tapping

Technique
This is a combination of a traditional sweep picking arpeggio triad where I ad some really cool legato hammer on and pull off combined with some advanced tapping on the high E string making this into a phrygian dominant arpeggio omit the seventh. Of course you can ad the A making it a complete Harmonic minor scale fifth step by for example sliding the pinkie two frets up on the high E string and back again

How to use this
To be able to use this in your own playing for improvising or so...

Extreme Tapping Locrian omit fourth

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 In : extreme tapping

About
So this technique is actually the same we make us of in the Major scale and Dorian and Phrygian Extreme Tapping lick we did the last few times, we just change the major third into a minor third and change the ninth or second into a flattened and use the index finger for this of course, this way get the Locrian, then this new pattern in the tapping hand makes sure we get the flattened fifth and omits the fourth, the two whole steps in the tapping hand also gives us the flattened sixth and...

Dorian Extreme Tapping Omit Seven

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Thursday, September 27, 2018 In : extreme tapping

About
So this technique is actually the same we make us of as the Major scale Extreme Tapping lick we did last time, we just change the major third into a minor third and this way get the Dorian scale except for the seventh note of the scale but other than that its the same fingering I make use of and the same technique

Technique
This technique is something I invented because I wanted to use as many fingers as possible for tapping but still keeping the pick between my index finger and thumb. Th...

Extreme Tapping Major Scale

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Friday, September 21, 2018 In : extreme tapping

About
So this lick or scale is one of my ultimate trademark licks that really got my playing going and it can for you too. Once you get a hold of this baby you will be able to shred like a maniac for sure

Theory
This is sort of a Ionian scale but it can also work as a dominant scale since there is no seventh in it, so its a complete major scale with no seventh and therefore you can use it either as a Ionian scale also called the major scale or you could use it as a dominant step scale, or a mix...

Advanced stunt sweep picking tapping

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 In : Sweep Picking Tapping

About
Here is one of my all time favorites, I have been using this lick and alikes for many years now, both for improvising and composed solos since the early nineties. So here I will give the technique to you

Theory
This row of arpeggios is three different inversiens of A minor, its triads and then I add some extra notes using multi finger tapping, the notes being E, G and A in the first inversion which is just the seventh added to the sweep picking triad arpeggio. then the next inversion mak...

Insane Shred Techniques 2

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Thursday, August 9, 2018 In : Sweep Picking Tapping

About

Here's the second idea in the insane shred techniques series, to be honest the first one may be more advanced and technical to you and require more stretching plus mastering or be familiar with 8 finger tapping but what are you gonna do.
This one is a sweep picking tapping lesson descending, what makes it particularly interesting is that it descends with slides on the A string which is definitively a new concept

How to play this technique
This is a C# minor arpeggio in three different inv...

Insane Techniques example 1

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 In : sweep picking 8 finger tapping

How to play the techniques

So after a long hiatus from this blog I'm back with some fun and inspiring ideas. This here is a sweep picking 8 finger tapping idea where I make use of all the notes on the guitar, from the open low E to the E on the twenty fourth fret on the high E string.

To be able to do this you have to make use of my trade mark technique where I slide the pick up my thumb to be able to play with four fingers on the tapping hand, and I'm combining this with a four note pattern o...
