Easy Scale Licks Implementation

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Saturday, January 7, 2017, In : Alternate Picking

Implementation
Obviously the idea of this video and blog is not the lick in it self but more a concept to use when you are soloing in the scales. And let me just apologize for the old url on the video, the video is not completely new but I find the info and idea very relevant and its some time ago I posted some Alternate Picking lessons. The idea is to take a basic concept or a pattern you want to play within the scale pattern and repeat that in the next or previous scale pattern, this is an e...

How To Play Fast - what everybody ought to know about playing fast

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Thursday, January 14, 2016, In : beginner shred guitar

A simple system that often seem complicated

This video presents to you the do's and dont's of learning to play fast. Learning to play fast is actually simpler than you might think but what you first of all need to know is to cut through all the talk and hype about learning to play fast. I have been teaching guitar for twenty plus years now and again and again I hear students that first come to me talk about stuff they read or saw on the internet that should be the "trick" to learn to play fa...

But the video is created in such a way so a beginner will get a success certain way to master the alternate picking technique and more importantly get a way of practicing that will get you to your goal every time you want to learn something new. As I also state in the video its all about the mental game and wi...

Creative practicing Neo Classical Shred

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Monday, August 31, 2015, In : Neo Classical Shred Guitar

About
This lesson is a piece I have had a lot of benefits from practicing now for some weeks. This is the awesome thing about composing a piece that makes use of all the things you want to be able to play in any situation. So for example if you need to work on either your Sweep picking, your Alternate picking or you 8 finger tapping, this could be a good example of a put together piece that will work on those, so identify what you need to work on and put together a cool piece or by all mean...

Chopin Etude Alternate picking lesson

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Sunday, June 21, 2015, In : Alternate Picking

About

The first thing that I need to mention here is that once you have played through the lesson the first time and if you have played Alternate picking through the whole piece you will start over with the opposite type picking stroke. This means that if you started with a down stroke you will play the second time round with an up stroke. This certainly created a few challenges for me, but thats great, this means that you will improve you Alternate picking technique both starting with and up...

Inspiring Shred Guitar Techniques

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Sunday, May 31, 2015, In : sweep picking 8 finger tapping

About
Make sure that you practice the Tapping technique where you tap back and forth between the long finger and the little finger while holding the pick between the thump and index finger because this particular technique can really slow down the rest of this piece. In general the Tapping technique in this whole piece could use some pondering on what fingering will help you achieve perfection and speed as quick as possible. And also make sure that you try to drill especially the Tapping par...

Effective practicing

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, In : exotic scales

About
Other than a cool little musical piece presenting some interresting scales and modes like Major raised five, Dorian, Locrain and Eight note scale used as a dominant, plus the awesome Major seven raised fifth Arpeggio, this video and blog is about creating a nice and inspiring environment for your practicing. Because if you are like me it can sometimes be a little tough being alone with just the guitar and you racing mind, so what really works great for me and helps me keeping my focus ...

Creative Shred Guitar

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Monday, May 4, 2015, In : Sweep Picking Tapping

About
This video is about getting your own creativity flowing regarding shred guitar and shred techniques. I really feel that once I started to create my own licks and sort of created my own techniques like Sweep picking 8 finger tapping and Sweep picking combined with Extreme and Advanced Tapping I became much more creative and what was awesome about that was also that it gave me many more reasons to practice as much as possible. Im not saying that no one else was doing this in the world, b...

Neo classical shred guitar lesson 3

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Saturday, April 25, 2015, In : Neo Classical Shred Guitar

About
This is the third contribution to the Neo Classical Shred guitar lessons or Neo Classical Metal lessons that I have been creating in this period and it is the full pice so there's a lot of Tablature in this one. This one is in a way a little more basic because I only use Sweep picking triads and Alternate picking in six tuplets. There's a lot going on in the backing track so I hope you can still hear whats important, the guitar. There are a few points that does not start on a downbeat w...

Alternate picking improvisation

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, In : how to improvise

About
This video is a little different than the chops I have posted and the only reason I created the tablature for it is only so you can see exactly what I did. I also need to say that this is of course not a lick that is extremely interesting but the system to create it is extremely useful and interesting. So now that you have seen what I do I really encourage you to start using the system yourself and create som really cool runs and licks that fits well into the scale patterns because it th...

Harmonic minor Alternate picking speed

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Sunday, March 29, 2015, In : Alternate Picking

About
In a way this is just a simple Alternate picking lesson, but again there's so much to be able to be fast and clean in the Alternate picking technique. But once you get the fundamentals down in the technique you are able to play fast in everything that is build from the scales with the three notes per string concept, that's also the reason that it looks so easy for the players who really master the Alternate picking technique and who has a strong basis in the three notes per string concep...

Alternate picking speed Formula

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Friday, March 27, 2015, In : Alternate Picking

About
So as the video explains, I get some great benefits from just practising fifteen minutes every morning. So first thing in the morning I stretch my fingers a little bit and then start slowly with the first lesson. As I also state in the video it's not really the material that does the trick but more the idea of getting really deep into the technique every morning and I don't even try to play any of the pieces I practice fast, or try to reach my max. Whats important in this idea is to get...

The 5 critical Steps to fast Alternate picking

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Friday, March 27, 2015, In : Alternate Picking

About
Alternate picking can be such a frustrating technique because you develop the speed in another way than with many other techniques, in Alternate picking we develop the speed in quantum leaps instead of gradually getting faster. So a lot of people give up because they don't see the improvement they expect. But check out these five steps in this video and adjust any possible "wrong" way that has not taken you to the result you are after

Step 1. Practice at a pace where you have total cont...

Alternate picking study 12

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Saturday, March 21, 2015, In : Alternate Picking

About
Hi there here is cool little alternate picking run that is very reminiscent of something Paul Gilbert used to do in the eighties and probably still does, there´s no doubt that the three notes per string alternate picking ideas from the Classic Intense Rock really inspired me and a lot of other guitar players out there and created the basics of playing fast alternate picking. The idea of starting an alternate picking run from the low E string and continuing it through the scale patterns ...

Neo Classical Capricci 2

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Saturday, March 21, 2015, In : Neo Classical Shred Guitar

About
Here is the second contribution to the Neo Classical Shred Guitar Caprice. This one makes use of three different invertions of the E minor triad sweep picking arpeggio and also of the Harmonic minor scale in the second and first position. This is again a piece that can easily be divided up into all the sweep picking arpeggios and then also the final sixtuplet alternate picking pattern. Apart from you making faster technical progress on something like this, this is also a really cool ways...

Neo Classical Capricci 1

About
Do you love it ? Well I do ! This little caprice kind of thing is in the key of B minor and is obviously executed in the Harmonic minor scale so if you dont know the seven scale positions in the harmonic minor scale then it is definitively a great contribution to learn stuff like this because it will give you a great over all view of the patterns that´s going on in stuff like this. I find that if im learning stuff that is making use of patterns like scales and arpeggios I know then I le...

Alternate Picking Basics part 2

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Friday, March 20, 2015, In : Alternate Picking

About
Hey there, I made this video because I got some feedback regarding the previous video touching on the subject of the right hand picking method. So I realized that the previous video was not thorough enough and its funny that whenever I go into detail on a subject that seems quite simple to the untrained eye "such as my own" then I suddenly conceive that there is much more to the case that I first thought. So in this video I will go more into detail on the ways to hold the pick. For me pe...

Alternate Picking Lesson 7

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Friday, March 20, 2015, In : Alternate Picking

About
This alternate picking idea is pretty cool in the way it makes use of re using a lot of notes and this way you in a little area play a lot of notes but it still sounds like a lot is happening so to say. the same concept is used in three spots with the little turnaround as I like to call it where the first is pivoting on the A string. The pattern is also being executed in the third position of the Major scale and the key is C minor which is sharing the same notes as the E flat Major scale...

Alternate Picking Basics

About
I did this video a while ago with the intention of starting a site with only beginner guitar stuff. I saw the video through and I think the video has some important knowledge if you want to learn how to play guitar shred guitar and lead guitar style of course. I go through all the pitfalls I believe there can appear when you want to play fast alternate picking such as where to establish your control of the right arm and hand. The first point of control of the movement actually starts in ...

String skipping Alternate picking

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Friday, March 6, 2015, In : string skipping

About
Hey guys and dolls ! here is another shred guitar lesson, this one is string skipping and as I also explain in the video the obvious inspiration is of course Paul Gilbert but also that I prefer playing alternate picking all the way through instead of combining alternate picking with hammer on and pull off as Paul Gilbert does. There´s no doubt that this way of using alternate picking all the way is way more challenging since you have to be really quick with the picking hand to avoid spa...
