Advanced Sweep Picking Tapping

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, In : Sweep Picking Tapping

About Scales
This lesson is all about four note Arpeggios and in this case the A Major seven and the E Dominant seven, as I explain in the video you can easily incorporate it into the A major scale or of course the Major scale in general, start it from the first step of the Major scale, regarding the technical stuff

Technique
As you can see I combine Tapping using two fingers and in this example I use the long finger and the Little finger, this helps me easily go into the Sweep picking techniqu...

Complete Fret Board Sweep Picking Arpeggios

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Saturday, November 12, 2016, In : 7 string guitar

Technique and Fingering
In a few of the inversions of the Arpeggios there are some specific fingerings that you need to make use of to be able to play it. In the first Inversiosn make sure you use the ring finger to bar over the low E string and A sting(this is of course the 7 string version of the piece) this makes it possible to use the long finger on the D string and finally the Index and

Fourth inversion
Little finger on the G string to complete the first inversion of the D major Triad Arp...

Contemporary Shred Guitar Lesson 2

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Saturday, April 23, 2016, In : contemporary shred guitar

About

Hey here is the second of the Contemporary Shred Guitar Lessons, this one is even more Contemporary and this time theres no Neo Classical Shred Guitar influences. Its an E Major 7 Arpeggio played in three inversions, this tachnique requires some more finesse than the triads because of all the added Hammer on's and Pull off's along the way. Especially the second inversion requires a sleight of hand and no heavy-handedness.

Improvisation

Fancy Arpeggios

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Friday, August 14, 2015, In : Sweep Picking Tapping

About
This is a C Major slash A minor Sweep picking, Tapping, Legato and sliding Arpeggios. It's really cool sounding and you can work it into your own playing from the second position of the Major scale, this means that when you are improvising and soloing and you at one point reach the second Scale position and also the G string you can break into this lick. Of course this is in the key of C but it will benefit you to the extreme if you try to use it in other keys, you could skip the 24th ...

Japanese Scale Arpeggio

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Friday, August 7, 2015, In : exotic scales

About
This is an old lesson from my old channel, but the lick is kinda cool. The thing about the Japanese scale is that it only consists of five notes, and just like in the Pentatonic scale, it pretty much trims all the fat and this way makes sure that each individual note sounds awesome in conjunction with the chord. Regarding the lick that I still call an Arpeggio even though it makes use of all five notes of the scale, but its played using Sweep picking and you still get the Arpeggio type...

Jazz Shred Arpeggios

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Monday, July 6, 2015, In : music theory

About

In this lesson we are going through a standard Jazz chord movement which is the II-V-I or 2-5-1 movement. Its often or was often used as a method as a tonal "breakthrough" to go into the next II-V-I or II-V movement in the next key. But here we will just use it as a Super imposing tool. Which we will "act" as if we play over the particular chord(which I actually do in the video) but we can easily use it over just one chord which will then be the Super imposing. But to get a deeper under...

Blues Shred Arpeggios

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, In : blues shred

About
It's obviously not often that you would use sweep picking Arpeggios in a standard Blues, but you can absolutely get the sweet benefits of the Blues sound in almost everything else, so here are a standard Blues Vamp using four note Dominant arpeggios with added the minor thirds or raised ninths if you will into the Major seven Arpeggios which is a typical "trick" that are one of the "building stones" of creating the Blues sound. As I also state in the video its extremely important that ...

This is the third contribution to the Neo Classical Shred guitar lessons or Neo Classical Metal lessons that I have been creating in this period and it is the full pice so there's a lot of Tablature in this one. This one is in a way a little more basic because I only use Sweep picking triads and Alternate picking in six tuplets. There's a lot going on in the backing track so I hope you can still hear whats important, the guitar. There are a few points that does not start on a downbeat w...

Extreme Tapping Arpeggios combined with Guitar Scales

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Thursday, April 2, 2015, In : extreme tapping

About
This lick is one of my trademarks and what I normally call Extreme Tapping. Its a killer pattern that sounds really extreme once you got the technique down. One of the first things regarding this technique that most people find a little weird is something like starting a lick out with a hammer on which can feel a little awkward in the beginning. The nex thing is to make the string skipping lose the possible breaks between the notes and obviously also the string noise that can happen when...

Rightyho !! here is once again one of those crazy ass sweep picking triad arpeggios combined with tapping. And in this one I obviously do the sweep picking with the thumb and index finger which then gives me the possibility to tap with the long finger, ring finger and little finger. I want to tell you that it is a good attitude to have towards anything you want to learn that you can easily reach the goal that you have set for yourself but its also important to know that - that being said...

Economy picking Dominant Arpeggio

About
This almost calls for a celebration of some kind since I believe this is my first ever economy picking or speed picking lesson. Its a technique I have not explored that much so the amount of chops I have using this technique is very limited. But when I got the idea of repeating dominant arpeggios in a cascading way then using the economy picking technique made a lot of sense. The term speed picking is actually something I got from the master Frank Gambale but I have not heard that term a...

Neo Classical Sweep picking Arpeggios

About
Sweep Picking in the Neo Classical style. I just want to spend some extra time on the diminished shapes because they are some shapes I just came up with to be able to play some sixtuplet dimished shapes without only covering the E, B and G string. So what I do is I play two notes on the high E string and on the D string and only one note on the rest of the strings. Also I play only one note on the A string and to me it seems natural to use the little and index finger on the D string and ...

About
In this arpeggio I play a variety of economy picking and sweep picking. All the ascending part is economy picking and the descending part is mostly sweep picking but also some economy picking concepts are used

Economy Picking
The economy picking technique has a few concepts that you pretty much cant derive from without using a new technique

1. Even number of notes to change direction

2. Odd number of notes to stay in the same direction

3. The picking technique directs the fretting hand

Economy picking Diminished Arpeggios

About
This arpeggio calls for a specific fingering to make it work which is also typical for economy picking. Its as the title says diminished and I will shoe you a cool way to work it into a traditional Major scale

Technique
As you can see in the picking part of the video I play a picking stroke on each and every note, so no pull off´s or hammer on´s on the spots where I play more than one note which is typical for Sweep Picking. But in Economy or Speed Picking you pick every note and arrange...

Altering the sound of the Major 7 Arpeggio

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Thursday, March 26, 2015, In : sweep picking

About
This arpeggio is really amazing sounding in my opinion, and its very refreshing to use these Major seven arpeggios if you are normally using the traditional triad arpeggios. Theres absolutely nothing wrong with triads, I use them all the time, but its a question about what sound you're after, if you want Neo Classical Metal or Shred guitar then the triad arpeggios are perfect, I might also add a Dominant seven arpeggio to a Neo Classical Metal piece of music though, but thats pretty much...

This song has obviously been heavily covered on youtube, but this is sort of a new view of the beautifull piece. Theres many a simpler version of the Arpeggio piece on youtube but the fact is that its actually not that easy, when you listen really close you can clearly hear the slides Jason are doing in between some of the Arpeggios. I think we can all agree that this extreme guitar lesson is totally and completely over the top. It features a variety of techniques such as Sweep Picking, Legato, tappin and 8 finger tapping and three and four notes per string patterns. I guess you can also see and here that its highly improvised and that is the reason that I did not slow it down. Extreme Tapping Major Arpeggio

About
Its Shred Guitar time again. Here is a really awesome tapping pattern that I have been using for quite some years but I expanded it with a few more notes... what a bonus. Its one of those techniques where its pretty difficult to damnp the strings while you play because you need to tap with several fingers on low and high strings, so to make it juuuust perfect I sometimes use the neck pickup to kill the noise if I need to. But I also add a four finger per string legato phrase on the high E string which then in turn adds the nine and the eleventh to the arpeggio, so the only note missing for it to become a thirteenth and then having all the notes of the scale is the G sharp, you could add it with a tap if you like.
