About these Arpeggios

This piece comes from my new album Concerto, its the third track on the album and is called Monuments, this partucular thing is the intro Arpeggios and represents a lot of different interresting Arpeggios mainly using Sweep picking. We both getu regular triad Arpeggios but also four note Dominant Arpeggios in different inversions, Major seven and diminished sevens plus the really cool Major seven raised fifth from the third step of the Harmonic minor scale

Neo Classical 8 Finger Tapping

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, In : Neo Classical Shred Guitar

Technique
If you have followed my 8 finger Tapping lessons before, or my Sweep Picking 8 Finger Tapping lessons to be more precise you will know that to go from the Sweep picking technique to the 8 finger tapping technique I slide the pick up the index finger with my thumb. This is key to be able to combine those two techniques in the same lick. The most tough and the part you will probably have to drill again and again is the part where you descend the 8 finger tapping scale from the B stri...

Creative practicing Neo Classical Shred

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Monday, August 31, 2015, In : Neo Classical Shred Guitar

About
This lesson is a piece I have had a lot of benefits from practicing now for some weeks. This is the awesome thing about composing a piece that makes use of all the things you want to be able to play in any situation. So for example if you need to work on either your Sweep picking, your Alternate picking or you 8 finger tapping, this could be a good example of a put together piece that will work on those, so identify what you need to work on and put together a cool piece or by all mean...

Effective practicing

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, In : exotic scales

About
Other than a cool little musical piece presenting some interresting scales and modes like Major raised five, Dorian, Locrain and Eight note scale used as a dominant, plus the awesome Major seven raised fifth Arpeggio, this video and blog is about creating a nice and inspiring environment for your practicing. Because if you are like me it can sometimes be a little tough being alone with just the guitar and you racing mind, so what really works great for me and helps me keeping my focus ...

Neo classical shred guitar lesson 3

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Saturday, April 25, 2015, In : Neo Classical Shred Guitar

About
This is the third contribution to the Neo Classical Shred guitar lessons or Neo Classical Metal lessons that I have been creating in this period and it is the full pice so there's a lot of Tablature in this one. This one is in a way a little more basic because I only use Sweep picking triads and Alternate picking in six tuplets. There's a lot going on in the backing track so I hope you can still hear whats important, the guitar. There are a few points that does not start on a downbeat w...

Neo Classical Shred Guitar Sweep picking 8 finger tapping

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Friday, April 17, 2015, In : Neo Classical Shred Guitar

About
Hello again, here are yet another Neo Classical Shred Guitar lesson that are a lot of fun both to listen to and to play. I have again chosen to focus on the combination of Sweep picking and 8 finger tapping as well as the 8 finger tapping alone. So I believe that the sliding of the pick up the index finger using the thump is essential to be able to do this technique since its crucial to have access to all four fingers on both hands if you want to play those sweet 8 finger tapping patter...

Neo Classical shred guitar extreme 8 finger tapping

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Friday, April 10, 2015, In : Neo Classical Shred Guitar

About
This lick contains a lot of different techniques like Sweep picking, Alternate picking, Legato, 8 finger tapping and combinations of those techniques as well. But in the lesson part I want to concentrate on the Sweep picking 8 finger tapping combination as well as the all out 8 finger tapping part.

Technique
As I also talk about in the video, playing 8 finger tapping and also the combination os Sweep picking and 8 finger tapping you really need to master the Dampening game bless you want...

Neo Classical Sweep picking Arpeggios

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, In : sweep picking

About
Sweep Picking in the Neo Classical style. I just want to spend some extra time on the diminished shapes because they are some shapes I just came up with to be able to play some sixtuplet dimished shapes without only covering the E, B and G string. So what I do is I play two notes on the high E string and on the D string and only one note on the rest of the strings. Also I play only one note on the A string and to me it seems natural to use the little and index finger on the D string and ...

Jason Becker Altitudes

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, In : jason Becker

About
Here is my version of the famous Arpeggio pice from the classic Jason Becker song Altitudes. This song has obviously been heavily covered on youtube, but this is sort of a new view of the beautifull piece. Theres many a simpler version of the Arpeggio piece on youtube but the fact is that its actually not that easy, when you listen really close you can clearly hear the slides Jason are doing in between some of the Arpeggios. The topper is the two Taps Jason are also using, I have never ...

Harmonic minor Sweep picking Tapping advanced

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Monday, March 23, 2015, In : Sweep Picking Tapping

About
This lick is really cool and I have used it quite a lot on my recordings like in Infinity Overture: The Infinite Overture pt.1 and my solo album Sthenic. Its a combination of a minor sweep picking triad and a lot of notes added from the Harmonic minor scale with tapping with three fingers on the right hand

Technique
One element that to some degree can make a very advanced lick like this seem a little easier is the hammer on´s I do as a help to make the shift between the sweep picking tec...

Neo Classical Arpeggios 5

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Sunday, March 22, 2015, In : Neo Classical Shred Guitar

About
This cool little and very typical neo classical shred guitar sounding phrase introduces a dominant arpeggio that might be new to you. It´s a little bit non typical in the way that I add extra notes on the way while ascending and descending and in this case it is on the D and on the G string instead of only on the two E strings. The idea of connecting arpeggios together with scale patterns is vey typical for the Neo Classical Metal genre. It especially reminds me of Symphony x Damnation...

Neo Classical Capricci 2

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Saturday, March 21, 2015, In : Neo Classical Shred Guitar

About
Here is the second contribution to the Neo Classical Shred Guitar Caprice. This one makes use of three different invertions of the E minor triad sweep picking arpeggio and also of the Harmonic minor scale in the second and first position. This is again a piece that can easily be divided up into all the sweep picking arpeggios and then also the final sixtuplet alternate picking pattern. Apart from you making faster technical progress on something like this, this is also a really cool ways...

Neo Classical Capricci 1

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Saturday, March 21, 2015, In : Neo Classical Shred Guitar

About
Do you love it ? Well I do ! This little caprice kind of thing is in the key of B minor and is obviously executed in the Harmonic minor scale so if you dont know the seven scale positions in the harmonic minor scale then it is definitively a great contribution to learn stuff like this because it will give you a great over all view of the patterns that´s going on in stuff like this. I find that if im learning stuff that is making use of patterns like scales and arpeggios I know then I le...

Neo Classical Sweep picking Tapping

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Friday, March 20, 2015, In : Sweep Picking Tapping

About
Hey there ! here is the first idea of some neo classical shred guitar patterns I want to present to you. it consists of a chord structure which is Im Vm Im I so it is Cm to Gm and back to Cm and ends in C major which is pretty classical sounding. Its a pretty cool pattern that starts off with tapping parts of the arpeggios using both the long finger and little finger. I keep the pick between my thumb and index finger which makes it easier to do the tapping with two fingers. What you need...

Jason Becker The black cat

About
Hey fellas, this piece is Jason Becker's Sweep picking extrordinaire from the cacophony album Go Off. If you have not checked it out yet I can tell you that its a must have album if you're into Shred Guitar and of course especially if you love Jason Becker. Theres a few not so typical ways of playing Sweep picking Arpeggios in this piece, or at least thats the way I play it since I never saw Jason play it I just listened to the notes from the album and created this, I hope you'll enjoy...

Jason Becker Serrana Arpeggios

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Sunday, March 8, 2015, In : jason Becker

About
Hey guys I really feel there is a need for a tutorial in this incredible shred guitar piece by the Sweep picking Arpeggio master Jason Becker. But first of all I want to describe the version I did. Its almost completely true to the version that Jason Becker does in the popular clip he did in a clinic in the eighties.

But when I was listening to that version I was very unclear on some of the final arpeggios so I instead turned to the sequenced version which is on the album Perspective. An...
