Easy Scale Licks Implementation

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Saturday, January 7, 2017, In : Alternate Picking

Implementation
Obviously the idea of this video and blog is not the lick in it self but more a concept to use when you are soloing in the scales. And let me just apologize for the old url on the video, the video is not completely new but I find the info and idea very relevant and its some time ago I posted some Alternate Picking lessons. The idea is to take a basic concept or a pattern you want to play within the scale pattern and repeat that in the next or previous scale pattern, this is an e...

Fancy Arpeggios

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Friday, August 14, 2015, In : Sweep Picking Tapping

About
This is a C Major slash A minor Sweep picking, Tapping, Legato and sliding Arpeggios. It's really cool sounding and you can work it into your own playing from the second position of the Major scale, this means that when you are improvising and soloing and you at one point reach the second Scale position and also the G string you can break into this lick. Of course this is in the key of C but it will benefit you to the extreme if you try to use it in other keys, you could skip the 24th ...

Japanese Scale Arpeggio

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Friday, August 7, 2015, In : exotic scales

About
This is an old lesson from my old channel, but the lick is kinda cool. The thing about the Japanese scale is that it only consists of five notes, and just like in the Pentatonic scale, it pretty much trims all the fat and this way makes sure that each individual note sounds awesome in conjunction with the chord. Regarding the lick that I still call an Arpeggio even though it makes use of all five notes of the scale, but its played using Sweep picking and you still get the Arpeggio type...

Effective practicing

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, In : exotic scales

About
Other than a cool little musical piece presenting some interresting scales and modes like Major raised five, Dorian, Locrain and Eight note scale used as a dominant, plus the awesome Major seven raised fifth Arpeggio, this video and blog is about creating a nice and inspiring environment for your practicing. Because if you are like me it can sometimes be a little tough being alone with just the guitar and you racing mind, so what really works great for me and helps me keeping my focus ...

Exotic scales Enigmatic scale Legato lesson

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Thursday, April 2, 2015, In : exotic scales

About
This lick is composed from the really weird scale called The Enigmatic scale, and the name actually makes a lot of sense because just hearing the scale in itself gives no real clue as to what the root is. But the lick works perfectly as a lick you throw into something that's very harmonic which then will really throw you off for a second because it sounds so out there. Other than that the video is also made in the period where I produced the Mega program about mastering the Legato techni...

Extreme Tapping Arpeggios combined with Guitar Scales

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Thursday, April 2, 2015, In : extreme tapping

About
This lick is one of my trademarks and what I normally call Extreme Tapping. Its a killer pattern that sounds really extreme once you got the technique down. One of the first things regarding this technique that most people find a little weird is something like starting a lick out with a hammer on which can feel a little awkward in the beginning. The nex thing is to make the string skipping lose the possible breaks between the notes and obviously also the string noise that can happen when...

8 Finger Tapping scales in 3 octaves

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, In : 8 Finger Tapping

About
8 finger tapping guitar scales three octaves. I play one complete octave of the scale on each string but but because I start and end each string on the same note one octave higher that means I start the next string playing the next note in the scale. So in this case where I play the Ionian scale from the low E string that means that I start the next string which is the G string by playing the second note of the scale and finally when I go to the high E string I start the pattern by playi...

Basic music theory for all guitarists

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Monday, March 30, 2015, In : music theory

About
In this video I'm showing you the absolute critical knowledge that all guitarists and musicians in general needs to know to be able to communicate musically with other musicians which then makes you able to play with other musicians and understanding why and how to make the scales, arpeggios and chords work together and also to make a quick analysis of a piece of music just from looking at the chords and then decide what scales to use.

The little lesson shows you precisely how the chords...

Extreme Guitar

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Friday, March 20, 2015, In : stunt guitar

About
I think we can all agree that this extreme guitar lesson is totally and completely over the top. It features a variety of techniques such as Sweep Picking, Legato, tappin and 8 finger tapping and three and four notes per string patterns. I guess you can also see and here that its highly improvised and that is the reason that I did not slow it down. I basically play a E minor sweep picking pattern and the first time I do it I add a four notes per string on the high E string played legato ...

Dominant arpeggio and scale tapping

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, In : how to improvise

About
About
Here in this example you will get first of all a really cool way to play a four note arpeggio, it's a Dominant arpeggio using quite a bit of Legato in between this Sweep picking Arpeggio. But you will also learn how to use Tapping to play a scale in a really cool way that does not take up a lot of the freeboard which is often the case when Tapping a three notes per string scale with additional Tapping. In this idea you will usie two fingers to tap, I use the long and ring finger mos...

Sweep picking 8 finger Tapping beginner lesson

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Tuesday, March 10, 2015, In : sweep picking 8 finger tapping

About
This is a great introduction into the combination of Sweep picking and 8 finger tapping, especially because the intervals in the right and left hand are not crazy demanding as they often tend to be in those type of licks, so good luck and shred on !

Alternate Picking Basics

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Sunday, March 8, 2015, In : Alternate Picking

About
I did this video a while ago with the intention of starting a site with only beginner guitar stuff. I saw the video through and I think the video has some important knowledge if you want to learn how to play guitar shred guitar and lead guitar style of course. I go through all the pitfalls I believe there can appear when you want to play fast alternate picking such as where to establish your control of the right arm and hand. The first point of control of the movement actually starts in ...

8 Finger Tapping Extreme Shred

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Sunday, March 8, 2015, In : 8 Finger Tapping

About
This lick is really awesome I think, once you get used to tap with all four fingers and play legato with  all four fingers you can produce these long lines of shred guitar phrases. This is a quite long lick that can easily be divided up into smaller licks that are much more easy to incorporate into you own shred vocabulary. This is definetly something I will post videos about in near future so stay tuned. I suggest that you make one or two of the four notes per string patterns into one d...

8 Finger Tapping

Posted by Niels Vejlyt on Monday, March 18, 2013, In : 8 Finger Tapping

One of the very important elements in playing 8 finger tapping is to be able to play it without having the surrounding strings buzz making it sound awful in general. When I go from one string to another I make sure that I lower my right hand palm to damp the strings as much as possible. Good luck !
